Thankya Ms Zing!
Soo, what does everyone think when they see a rock star in a video?
I admit, like Amy when I saw Meatloaf in a commercial singing on of his classics I thought..."Cool". When I saw Madonna in a commercial for a song that had not even been released I thought I may not be able to get an erection for a week. Flacid.

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 12:49 PMI guess it matters who it is and what the intentions are, maybe? I'm not offended by Meat using his song to sell a phone, but Madonna... just seems so calculated, pimping out your unreleased tunes before they even have a chance to be digested by the public.

Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:15 PMI'm still waiting for some pharmaceutical company to tap Huey Lewis to sing "I Want a New Drug". -

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:44 PMMaybe it has something to do with the current success of the person doing the commercial.
Does Prince or Madonna or even Jessica Simpson (doing those acne commercials) NEED more money right now?
When it comes to someone like Mr. Loaf or Little Richard, hey, I'm glad to see them getting some airtime, and some cash. -

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:59 PMI recall Mr. Loaf being really hesitant to sing in the Tenacious D movie, because now he was a "serious actor".
I guess he got over that. -

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Thu, April 24, 2008 - 9:21 AMSeriously? I mean, c'mon, say what you will about the cornball movie, but Jack has some serious musician cred and friends. Hell, if it weren't for Rocky Horror, Meat wouldn't have had a start in the business. -

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:09 PMSlightly off topic because Iggy's not actually IN the commercial, but Carnival Cruise Line using "Lust For Life" cracks me up......
Here comes johnny yen again
With the liquor and drugs
And the flesh machine
Hes gonna do another strip tease.
Why did they omit this part? I think sales would go up if they advertised that. -

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 3:37 PMYou're so right! So totally inappropriate.
Like "Ça Plane Pour Moi" being used for a Pepsi commercial. -

Re: Rock Stars in Commercials -- Awesome or Pathetic?
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 6:44 PMI just view it as business. If it is an artist I like and appreciate then I tend to like and appreciate the advert. If it is one that I do not like nor appreciate then I am not so inclined to give kudos.
